Due to the frequent questions we receive regarding the material composition, safety, hygiene, strength, and rigidity, as well as the service life of the EUROPANEL building system and the structures built using it, we have decided to gradually address the full scope of these issues through a series of brief updates. In this first article, we will examine the concept of a building’s service life.

On November 24, 2016, EUROPANEL held its traditional annual conference. These regular events are designed to inform our clients and the professional community about the latest developments in EUROPANEL technology, as well as updates from our partner companies and suppliers.

The article compares a reinforced concrete (RC) foundation slab with a structural insulated panel (SIP) foundation on ground anchors for a passive house, not only in terms of structural design, time, and cost, but also from an environmental perspective.

Further work has been carried out on the construction of the IZY FOR 4 house in Nymburk. The Bramac Tegalit roof has been installed, the windows have been fitted, the drywall structures are in place, and electrical wiring is currently being installed.....

In addition to wood-frame panels, another panel technology is now widely used. This is the Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) technology, which was developed in the United States. The key difference between the panel developed by Captain J.G.C. Döcker and the SIP panel lies precisely in its construction.

The rapid growth in the production of panels for timber-frame construction had reached a point where Christov & Unmack had to look for other ways to keep up with the pace of production and meet the demand. The company decided to expand into Bohemia, where it established another production facility.

The success of the new construction system—panel technology—is evidenced, on the one hand, by the numerous awards won by the original Döcker houses, and, on the other hand, by the rapid expansion of the first large factory producing the panels themselves.

Today, prefabricated panel wood-frame buildings account for the largest share of the wood-frame construction market in Europe. There are hundreds of companies that manufacture panels of various sizes, material compositions, and levels of finish. The variety in panel technology is enormous. Upon closer examination, however, we find that prefabricated panel wood buildings are based on three fundamental structural principles of the panels.
