There is no longer a prestigious trade fair in the Czech Republic. EUROPANEL will not be exhibiting this year.

Every year, our company, EUROPANEL, participated in the DŘEVOSTAVBY trade fair with clockwork (or rather wooden) regularity. It was always held in February in Prague and served as a professional and promotional forum for anyone interested in this type of construction and for all market players. This year, we decided to skip our participation, and we want to explain to all our supporters and business partners why.

There used to be a specialized construction trade fair called IBF at the Brno Exhibition Center in the Czech Republic—it was huge and prestigious, and all companies in the construction industry considered participating in this fair a matter of prestige, and their presentations reflected that. Then a competing construction trade fair, FOR ARCH, was launched in Prague. It was large, had its flaws, lacked tradition, but it was in Prague.
We are a small country for two major construction trade fairs held in a single year, and so the outcome was inevitable. Today, both “construction trade fairs” have become more like regional exhibitions, which many large companies no longer even attend. There is no longer a prestigious construction trade fair in the Czech Republic.

And what about Dřevostavby?
Behind-the-scenes battles among trade fair organizers last year resulted in the relocation of the DŘEVOSTAVBY 2011 fair from the modern exhibition center in Letňany to the unsuitable and outdated exhibition center in Holešovice. Since there is always room for improvement, two fairs will take place this February. From February 8 to 11, 2012, the FOR WOOD timber construction trade fair in Letňany, and from February 23 to 26, 2012, the DŘEVOSTAVBY 2012 trade fair in Holešovice.

So, a number of interesting questions came to mind:

• Should we attend one, the other, or both?
• What will the quality of the fairs be like?
• Which one will visitors attend?
• Will there be both again in 2013, or just one?
• Will there be enough exhibitors for two fairs in the long run?
• Isn’t it foolish to hold two trade shows with the same focus twelve days in a row in one city?
• Is the goal still to organize a prestigious, professional trade fair for both the general public and industry professionals, or is it simply about selling exhibition space and services at any cost?
• Won’t it end up the same way as with IBF and FOR ARCH?

Since we do not know the answers to these questions, we will not be participating in any trade fair this year. We believe that we can spend the hundreds of thousands of crowns we used to pay each year for our exhibition booth in a way that will provide our customers with significantly greater benefits from this investment.
